About Me

Welcome

This is my space to share experiences from marriage and becoming a mother.  I felt motivated to share my experiences after I lost my pregnancy and baby at 22 weeks (You can read my experience under “Confessions of a Grieving Housewife”). Blogs and other women who were brave to share their stories helped me work through my grief. Being able to share my hobbies and our family experiences are ways for me to continue to heal on my grieving journey.

As I have started my journey as being a wife and mother, I have had a lot of experiences that have challenged my mind in how I view the world and those around me. I tend to react and think a bit differently than most women probably would. My mom would always tell me that I was her “child from mars”. As I enter new phases of life, I have found I do have a different way of thinking and dealing with life experiences.

My name is Christy Dees. I am 29 years old and a graduate from Weber State University in Technical Sales. I served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Charlotte, North Carolina. I spent 18 months there, and it was one of the best/most difficult experiences of my life (next to getting married and having two babies). I met and married my husband in May 2012. Kevin and I met online (ldsmingles.com-umm…ya…true story, not necessarily the most exciting to share when people ask the question “so…how did you two meet?”)

Kevin is from Fresno, CA. So off I moved from what some would say a sheltered Utah Mormon bubble (Syracuse, UT) out to big liberal California, Well not so big and liberal in Fresno. Actually it is quite amusing to tell people I am from California to see their brightened up face (as I see their thought bubble includes beaches, warm weather, tans, and Disneyland) to change suddenly when I get to bring them to reality and say we live about 3-5 hrs from Disneyland or the beach and it may be the hottest part of California that is famous for farming. Yes, lots of almonds, pistachios, tomatoes, wine grapes, olives, and cotton. I get to watch their eyebrows crinkle and looked disappointed as they ask “Where is Fresno?” well I like to refer to this area as the armpit of California. That is pretty harsh, but I will say some good things about it in a moment. It has the worst air quality and very bad allergens. Yup, this is where I moved to. It gets as hot as 113 (maybe hotter!) degrees in the summer, and the weathermen tend to say it is cooling down when it hits 95. The summers are pretty brutal. On the good side, we benefit from the fresh farm foods. Produce is abundant and cheap! The fall and winter are amazing! Light jacket weather and opening up our doors and windows to feel the breeze come in are just a few reasons I love this area. Utah weather can’t compete with the fall and winter in Fresno. I’ll take my sweaty hot, no beach (Although there are plenty of pools around!) summers any day over pile high snowstorms that last through spring and ice storms that make you feel like you’re ice skating to get to your car!

This is also where my husband is most successful. He is a financial controller at a small farm here and loves his job. He also works for his brother one day a week doing the same thing. It was very important to me to marry someone that loved their job. They say, happy wife, happy life. But I feel opposite is true. When a man loves his job, it makes life so much easier. They are happier to help around the house and more willing to let you spend their money (wink, wink) Kevin is very successful at what he does, so if it means being away from family and friends, then off I go to make more friends and strengthen my family relationships through phone, email, and face-time. It has been quite the adventure adjusting and moving away from my family to come to California. I have had to make new friends and start a life here and it wasn’t easy, it was difficult and lonely at first, but as time has gone on, I feel very blessed to have certain people in my life and can’t imagine life without them. It definitely has been a growing experience, and most experiences I will share on this blog.

My hobbies include learning how to cook and bake, crochet, read, and recently I have tried to become a sewer. (HA) but to give myself credit, I try. I am no expert really at anything I do, other than I just try. One of these days I will find my niche and share it with the world. For now, I just learn from other women and ask a lot of questions.

Kevin and I have one angel baby, Autumn, she was born October 11, 2013 (read her story under “Confessions of a Grieving Housewife”), and one living child, Corbin. He was born in December of 2014.
